Ugh! Those awful setbacks!

It happens to us all no matter what we do or how hard we try, it just plan happens! I have not blogged for a time as I am dealing with some injuries but am healing. Not having internet at home makes it hard also to blog but today I went to the library so I could do a short post.

I did go to the Medical Weight Loss of NY back in August and they have devised a dietary plan for me. It is taking some adjusting to it but I think it is working. Taking the Chromium before supper helps to curb my appetite in the evening so I am not wanting to eat and I am allowed a protein snack two hours before I go to bed. Having a protein snack in the morning, afternoon and evening should help regulate my sugar levels. Some evenings I have no desire to eat the snack but find I do sleep a little better when I do eat the protein. I am to shoot for 64 fluid ounces of water a day and they gave me a tall water bottle and four of those is just a little more than the 64 ounces so it really isn't to hard keeping track of my water intake.

I had to reschedule my second appointment as I was in no condition to travel so later this month I go and we will see how I am doing with this diet. I chose to use the conventional food plan as I did not want to be stuck with just drinking fluids. I am not after fast weight loss but want to work at making good food choices and in the right portion sizes.

Obesity in America is getting out of hand and we really need to take back control in the foods we buy and prepare. In the land of plenty we have forgotten how to use self-control and are harming not only ourselves but even those in our families.

I am back to keeping a food diary which helps as it gives a good picture at the portions and what one is eating. I also keep track of calories, carbs, fiber, protein, added sugar, and saturated fats. When I do this I can really see how nutritional a food item is or is it a bunch of empty calories. When trying to lose weight it is better to eat something that adds good fuel for the body then one that maybe tastes really good but full of chemicals, fats, sugars and no real nutrition which our bodies really need to repair and keep healthy.

I haven't been able to go to the gym but I am getting out to walk some and I use three pound weights for my arm exercises. I can't go over that right now but in time I will. I do chair exercises since I can't
get down on the floor and I stand and do various leg exercises to try to build up my leg strength. Next week I start therapy so at least I will be ahead of the game as I am keeping up with the exercises given me at the rehab center.

The thought for today is that if you get slammed with another set back just keep going. Don't let yourself get discouraged as it is so easy to do. I try to keep my goal ahead of me and keep moving toward it even if I am going at a snails pace.

When I first started this blog I had envisioned that I would be working out at the gym and dropping the numbers on the scale. Ha! like is that really happening? Yes, but only in very, very small increments. (I bet you thought I was going to say, no, right?) So what keeps me going is that I made a promise to myself that I was going to get healthier and share this journey with others like myself who are over 50 years of age, dealing with health issues, and need motivation to keep moving forward in losing weight and gaining better health. I know I need that and when I read someone else's struggles it shows me they are no different except those that whine and carry on about there woes. We all have them but why wallow in self-pity when usually it is something that either isn't our fault and we had no control. I just pick myself up, dust myself off and get moving again.

So keep moving forward toward the goal and keep on smiling no matter what life throws at you!
